Roman Kochanski has studied at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Tomma Abts. in 2012 the young artist was presented with the sponsorship award for young art of Stadtlohn, accompanied with an atelier scholarship and a catalogue.
Roman Kochanski on his works:
"Although my paintings always end up being representational, I´d rather see myself as an abstract painter. All figures are based on abstract surfaces and are sharpened if necessary. However, abstract moments stand still everywhere. For me, certain states of being are easier to be dealt with abstractly. Conditions like brokenness, fragility, strength - all of these can be conveyed better with gestures and surfaces than with a figure defined by clear outlines. My paintings are not merely to be seen, but rather to be felt out."
